Oh My Goth! (Home) |
You like gothic horror? Vampires and werewolves and things that howl out their anguish in the darkness of night? Yeah... with just the right creepy music to help you experience the true fascination of that gothic mansion or the spooky castle - which is always at the end of a dirt track, miles from anywhere.
Goth's come a long way since Shelley's missus wrote Frankenstein - but maybe not that far. Nowadays, we can watch it, instead of having to read and imagine it for ourselves. And though in some ways, having it served up on a plate like that instead of in our own heads takes some of the sting from the original, on the other hand, special effects have come so far in recent years that it's possible for a good director to make anyone's skin crawl - maybe even provoke a few nightmares.
That's not to take away from the classics, especially those from the Hammer House of Horror, which are still far and away the best known and most well loved of the genre. Those early black and whites might have been low budget, but they still have their appeal. But classic horror movies go back a lot further than Hammer. And then there's horror comedy - my favourite 'horror' movie of all time has to be Love at First Bite.
Moving onto TV, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of my favourite shows and Angel was pretty good, as well (mind you, I'm one of those sad people that still watches Star Trek). I'm not so impressed by Charmed, as it seems like a bit of a rip-off if you ask me. Maybe you have other favourites. But whatever you like, if you look in the right places, you should be able to find something exactly to your taste. Here's some I found earlier - and you don't need any 'sticky back plastic' either.
